Big Al's Old Time Barbecue
Back in the early ‘90s, a psychic told Pat Schweitzer she’d meet a tall—very tall—man named Alan who would make all her dreams come true. A few years later, sure enough, she did. And he did.
Today the couple runs the new Big Al’s Old Time BBQ, LLC, a drive-thru restaurant/catering service, and anyone who’s eaten there, psychic or not, can easily predict their success. Just one scrumptious bite of Al Vilcheck’s ribs, pulled pork, tenderloin, smoked wings, even beef brisket—vinegar-based coleslaw, too—and you foresee a place destined to thrive.
Easy-does-it is Al’s secret to recipes perfected over many years; he starts in the wee hours most mornings, getting the slow, slow process started so customers can pick up BBQ in a hurry. Pat adds spice, literally, with her line of Miss Pat’s rubs, seasonings and sauces.
Big Al’s is ideal for tailgating, parties and picnics—as well as busy moms seeking fast, fresh meals for their families. Catering ranges from wedding/rehearsal dinners to community events to fund-raisers.
Al played pro basketball in Belgium and still enjoys traveling abroad. He and Pat attended cooking school in Tuscany, for example, where they learned to prepare wild boar.

Whether it's the distinctive ribs or the succulent Boston butt that falls right off the bone, Big Al's and Miss Pat's BBQ is the best. I'll keep driving down from Charlotte for more!

I too had a chance to "taste test" quite a bit of Big Al's spread. It was absolutely some of the best food I've ever had. I'm not normally a fan of dry ribs... but these changed my mind. They are fabulous.

I had the opportunity to "taste test" some of Big Al's BBQ... and it was cooked with Pat's seasonings/rubs... and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD! I can't wait for them to open in April...
