Carolina Consignment
Trust your instincts—and your wife. That’s the lesson in former bank executive John Dickens’ commercial success. In fact, the business idea was first suggested to him by a designer—his wife, Linda. “We have now become a destination,” he says.
That destination is Carolina Consignment, a high-end, gently used furnishings store. John accepts name brand furniture and accessories from upscale neighborhoods and sells them at a fraction of retail. Consignors receive 60 percent of the proceeds; customers get fresh, fine looks at affordable prices. His clientele includes home buyers and sellers, parents helping children furnish homes and professional interior designers.
With the help of Heather Hiles and Will, his son, who learned display and design skills working with his mother, they set out to create a one-of-a-kind consignment experience, specializing in premier merchandise from top manufacturers, such as Thomasville, Drexel Heritage and Craftique.
And discriminating shoppers, who demand affordability without scrimping on quality, have responded. Today, the growing business occupies the entire floor space of Carolina Furniture’s old store location. Customers can also view the inventory at Carolina Consignment’s convenient Web site and Facebook page.
