Fowler's Pharmacy
Managing the eyewear side of things at Fowler’s Pharmacy has led Dave Maney to some pretty interesting places. When his father-in-law, the late Eugene “Doc” Estes, tapped Maney to run the shades shop 16 years ago he never expected he’d one day have a hand in protecting presidential peepers. But it’s true. Former President Bush is among the many high-profile owners of sunglasses from Fowler’s.
The former President is among good company in the Upstate. You’d be hard pressed to find a Greenvillian who has never shopped the unbelievable selection of eyewear inside the unassuming cinder block building on Laurens Road. And while selling sunglasses has put them on the map, it’s not how Fowler’s Pharmacy got its start.
Dave’s wife Judy Estes Maney has spent more than 30 years following in her father’s footsteps behind the other counter, as Fowler’s chief pharmacist. Unlike the big box pharmacies on every corner, Judy and her staff know their customers by name and treat them like the neighbors they’ve been for more than 50 years.
