Greenville Area Development Corporation is a good friend to have if you’re an up and coming Southern town looking to expand and retain industry on a shoestring. So says, Diana Turner, city administrator for Travelers Rest, who has seen firsthand the benefits of partnering with Tony Smith and the rest of the GADC team.
“In tough economic times it’s great to have a partner that can help us retain jobs and create new jobs,” Turner says, referring to the role GADC played in landing a coveted expansion of the Saint-Gobain Abrasives plant that added 50 jobs for TR’s industrial workforce. “It’s something we alone could not do with our limited budget.”
Smith’s 10 years of experience with the SC Department of Commerce played no small part in his ability to broker a favorable deal and employ more Upstate workers. But he also credits TR’s recent efforts to redefine itself with major improvements to the city center. A longtime jewel in the city’s crown, Sunrift Adventures, provided the bicycles.
