Mast General Store
Everyone loves going to Mast General Store—especially the folks who work there!
“This is THE best place to work,” says General Manager Mary Nase. Indeed, there’s never a dull moment in downtown’s favorite retail destination, where the inventory ranges from whimsical to rugged to downright delicious.
The original Mast General Store opened 127 years ago in Valle Crucis, NC. The emphasis on “a little bit of everything” extends to Greenville’s Main Street location, which opened in Spring 2003 and became a fast-favorite for its friendly atmosphere and free-ranging selection of old-time mercantile goods, toys, casual clothing, comfortable footwear, travel accessories, outdoor gear and, of course, more than 500 varieties of candy.
Working with Mast has been the highlight of Mary’s 32-year retailing career. She says her job is made easy by a strong management team—Tim Dorsey, Bryan Howell, and Eddie Poore—as well as a loyal staff. And because Mast is employee-owned, everyone is truly vested in ensuring the company’s success.
“We have outstanding employees who love working here,” says Mary. “That translates into great customer service. We also have a strong commitment to our community. Collecting shoes and coats is just one way we can give back and help others. We find that our customers are just as committed as we are.”
Customer Experience
Love this place!
I LOVE Mast General... it's such a fun place to browse and brings back memories... the candy, the toys, the magic tricks, the pranks! And when I needed a pair of comfortable shoes for my work, they helped me find the perfect pair. Plus they are committed to the good of the community and hold a shoe drive each year. Great place to look for outdoor clothing and a fun place to take visitors!
A place like no other
Mast General is a fun place to go... even if you only go to walk through and check it out. When my husband was stationed overseas, I went to Mast General and raided their candy barrels in the back to create a care package to send him and his unit. Those guys loved the variety of items I sent them. Some of the items I included were the old-fashioned candy we had as kids, the retro candies our parents enjoyed and a few new items that just added to the mix. But candy isn't all they have... there's so much more. The clothes, the shoes, the camping gear, the household items... it's never-ending. Chances are, when we have friends in family in town visiting, we always take a trip to Mast General Store on Main Street in downtown Greenville. And every time, it's a treat in and of itself.
