Metropolitan Arts Council (MAC)
Since 1973 the Metropolitan Arts Council (MAC) has preserved and expanded the cultural arts of Greenville. In 2010, MAC had its best year ever with total income surpassing $1 million, representing a 33.3% increase over income raised in 2009. The organization also granted a record high of $306,154 to area artists, arts organizations and arts education programs throughout Greenville County.
Greenville Open Studios 2010 had a record high of
142 participating artists with record high attendance
and sales of 63,070 and $233,941.
SmartARTS, MAC’s arts-integration partnership with the Greenville County Schools, has a record high of 33 participating schools in Greenville County for the 2010-2011 year. Since federal funding expired in 2007, MAC has raised over $500,000 to continue and expand the program. 2010 also heralded a wonderful arts-integration collaboration with the Peace Center for
the Performing Arts.
$14,000 was added to the MAC grants endowment in 2010. With a total of $25,500 in the endowment fund, 5% of unrestricted income will be added on an annual basis for the next three years prior to launching an endowment campaign.
